Questions, answered

Everything about our noise remover

How does AI noise removal work?

Lyssna's noise removal model analyzes your audio and builds a real-time map of the background noise signature — hiss, hum, wind, traffic, room reverb. It then subtracts those noise patterns while leaving the foreground speech or music intact. The result is clean audio without the artifacts that traditional noise gates or EQ produce.

Is the noise removal tool free to use?

Yes. Every new account includes free starter credits you can use for noise removal immediately. No credit card required — sign in with Google and clean your first recording.

What types of background noise can it remove?

Lyssna handles: background hiss and hum, wind and outdoor noise, traffic and city sounds, room echo and reverb, HVAC and fan noise, keyboard and mouse clicks, and general ambient background noise. The model adapts to each recording's unique noise profile rather than applying a fixed filter.

Will removing noise affect the quality of my voice?

For most recordings, no. Our AI is tuned to preserve the natural character of speech — including warmth, breath, and subtle nuance — while removing only unwanted background artifacts. Extreme cases (very noisy recordings with low voice-to-noise ratio) may show some smoothing of the voice, which is a trade-off inherent to all noise reduction.

What audio formats are supported?

You can upload MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, and most common audio formats. Video files like MP4 and MOV are also supported — we extract the audio track, clean it, and return a clean audio file.

How large can my audio file be?

The free playground accepts files up to 25 MB (roughly 25 minutes at standard podcast quality). Paid plans raise this limit and support batch cleaning for larger archives of recordings.

Can I use noise-removed audio commercially?

Yes, on paid plans. Cleaned audio generated with paid credits can be used in YouTube videos, podcasts, voiceovers, e-learning courses, and commercial projects. Free-tier output is for personal and evaluation use only.

How is this different from EQ or a traditional noise gate?

Traditional noise gates cut audio below a volume threshold — which chops off quiet speech and leaves noise in louder sections. EQ can reduce broad hum but can't separate complex noise from voice. Lyssna's AI models the noise signature of your specific recording and removes it across the full frequency spectrum without touching the voice signal.
